The Punjab health authorities have begun a systematic inspection of food items in Amritsar, collecting samples to detect adulteration.
The health department of Punjab has initiated a focused investigation into possible food adulteration across Amritsar. Officials announced that a team of inspectors will visit markets, shops and eateries to collect representative samples of commonly consumed items such as spices, oils and packaged foods. The move follows rising concerns about the quality of consumables and reports of substandard products reaching consumers.
Field officers are equipped with portable testing kits and are instructed to follow a randomised sampling protocol to ensure unbiased coverage. Samples will be taken from both wholesale and retail points, sealed, and sent to the state food safety laboratory for laboratory analysis. The department has also informed local vendors about the procedure and urged cooperation to expedite the testing process.
Preliminary results are expected within a few weeks, after which the health department will publish a report detailing any violations and recommend corrective actions. The investigation aims to safeguard public health, enforce existing food safety regulations, and deter future instances of adulteration in the region.
