The Punjab government has set up a seven‑member committee to reach consensus on amending the Beadabi Law and has formally written to the Akal Takht regarding the draft Guru Granth Sahib Respect Act 2026.

Punjab's administration announced the creation of a seven‑member committee tasked with securing agreement on proposed changes to the Beadabi Law. The committee will examine the draft "Jagat Jot Shri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Research) Act 2026" and recommend amendments that align with both legal and religious considerations.

In a parallel move, the state government dispatched an official letter to the Akal Takht, the highest temporal authority of Sikhism, outlining the intended revisions and seeking its guidance. The correspondence underscores the government's intent to involve religious leadership in the legislative process.

Officials indicated that the committee will comprise senior bureaucrats, legal experts and representatives from the Sikh religious establishment. Its findings are expected to be presented to the state cabinet within the next few weeks before any formal amendment is introduced in the assembly.
