The Punjab administration has approved construction of 36,792 houses in rural areas under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana‑Gramin (PMAY‑G).

The Punjab government has given the green light for the construction of 36,792 new homes in the state's rural districts under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana‑Gramin (PMAY‑G). The move is part of a broader effort to accelerate the rural housing drive and provide decent shelter to economically weaker sections.

The sanctioned houses will be built across multiple blocks, targeting families that meet the eligibility criteria set by the central scheme. Implementation will be coordinated by the state’s Rural Development Department in partnership with local bodies.

Tarunpreet Singh Sond, reporting for Patiala Politics, noted that the approval reflects the government's commitment to meet the housing deficit in Punjab's villages. Officials expect the project to begin within weeks, with construction timelines aligned to the scheme’s national guidelines.

Funding for the initiative will be drawn from both central and state allocations under PMAY‑G, ensuring that beneficiaries receive subsidised loans and financial assistance. The scheme aims to improve living standards and promote inclusive development in the state's hinterland.

If executed as planned, the 36,792 homes could significantly reduce the rural housing backlog, offering secure accommodation to thousands of families and contributing to the overall socio‑economic upliftment of Punjab's rural populace.
