The state government announced plans to develop Sangrur in Punjab into a dedicated skating hub, aiming to boost sports infrastructure and attract talent.

The Punjab government, speaking through Minister Mann, disclosed a comprehensive plan to convert Sangruri into a premier skating hub. The initiative is part of the state's effort to expand sports facilities and provide a dedicated venue for skating enthusiasts.

The proposal includes the construction of world‑class skating rinks, training academies, and supporting amenities such as spectator stands and equipment centres. Funding will be sourced from the state sports budget, with implementation slated to begin later this year.

Officials anticipate that the new hub will encourage greater participation in skating, enable the hosting of regional and national competitions, and generate employment opportunities for coaches, support staff, and ancillary services.

The project aligns with the broader national sports policy that seeks to diversify India's sporting portfolio beyond traditional games, positioning Punjab as a leader in emerging sports infrastructure.
