The Punjab government has prolonged its cleanliness drive until September 12 and will organise large‑scale Saturday clean‑up operations across the state.
The Punjab administration announced on Monday that the ongoing state‑wide cleanliness drive will now run until September 12, extending the original schedule. The decision comes as part of the government's continued push to improve public hygiene and waste management in urban and rural areas.
To boost participation, officials have scheduled "mega" clean‑up drives every Saturday until the new deadline. Local municipal bodies, school groups, NGOs and volunteers are being mobilised to collect litter, segregate waste and promote recycling in streets, markets and public spaces.
State officials said the intensified effort aims to sustain the momentum of the Swachh Bharat mission and set a benchmark for other states. They urged citizens to join the Saturday activities and adopt responsible disposal habits.
The extended timeline and Saturday campaigns are expected to enhance the overall cleanliness score of Punjab ahead of upcoming national assessments.
