Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann reported a decline in drug smuggling from Pakistan and announced that authorities are now concentrating on alternative trafficking routes.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced that the flow of illicit drugs across the Punjab‑Pakistan border has decreased significantly, according to data shared by the state’s anti‑narcotics authorities. The statement was made during a press briefing at the state secretariat.
Mann said that while the traditional smuggling corridors have been disrupted, traffickers are shifting to alternative routes that bypass the heavily monitored border areas. He urged law‑enforcement agencies to intensify surveillance on these emerging pathways.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the role of joint operations with the National Police and the Central Bureau of Investigation in curbing the drug trade. He pledged additional resources for intelligence gathering and cross‑border cooperation.
"We have seen a tangible reduction in drug influx from Pakistan," Mann remarked. "Our focus now is to identify and block the new routes that smugglers are using.", he added.
The Punjab government has already increased patrols along the border and upgraded its monitoring technology. The move comes amid nationwide efforts to curb the growing menace of narcotics trafficking in India.
