Punjab CM promises recruitment of 1,000 patwaris to address vacancy crisis

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwat Mann announced that the state will recruit 1,000 patwaris, aiming to fill long‑standing vacancies in the revenue department.
In a press briefing in Chandigarh, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwat Mann said the government will hire 1,000 patwaris within the next twelve months, a move intended to plug the chronic shortfall of revenue officials in the state.
The shortage of patwaris has long hampered timely land‑record updates, tax collection and dispute resolution in rural areas, prompting complaints from farmers and local bodies.
The CM outlined that the recruitment drive will follow a transparent, merit‑based selection process, with advertisements to be placed in leading newspapers and online portals by the end of the month.
He added that the new appointments are expected to improve service delivery at the village level and reduce the backlog of pending land‑record work.
While the Patwar Union has threatened a strike over pending grievances, the announcement of a large‑scale hiring package is seen as a step toward addressing the union’s concerns and stabilising the revenue administration.
