The Punjab government has begun rolling out 500 state‑of‑the‑art rural sports fields, part of a Rs 1,500 crore plan to develop 3,100 such facilities across the state.

Punjab Chief Minister Manpreet Singh Badal officially opened five hundred newly built rural sports complexes in a ceremony that highlighted the state’s commitment to youth development.
The inauguration is the first phase of a larger initiative that earmarks Rs 1,500 crore to construct a total of 3,100 modern sports grounds in villages across Punjab, equipped with updated playing surfaces, lighting and basic amenities.
Officials said the facilities are designed to encourage participation in athletics, cricket, football and other popular games, aiming to nurture talent at the grassroots level and provide healthier recreation options for young people.
The rollout is scheduled to continue over the next two years, with regular monitoring to ensure that each site meets the stipulated standards before being handed over to local bodies.
Stakeholders expect the scheme to boost sports participation, improve rural infrastructure and potentially feed promising athletes into state and national teams.
