Advocate Brijesh Chowta urges residents of Mangaluru to rally behind the proposal for a dedicated High Court bench in the city.

Mangaluru legal circles are hearing a fresh appeal from senior advocate Brijesh Chowta, who has called on the city’s populace to lend strong support to the establishment of a permanent High Court bench in the region. Chowta argues that a local bench would reduce the travel burden on litigants who currently have to reach the main bench in Bengaluru for hearings, thereby improving access to justice.

The proposal for a Mangaluru bench has been under consideration by the Karnataka High Court and the state government for several months, but progress has stalled amid procedural delays. Chowta contends that heightened public awareness and collective demand can accelerate the decision‑making process, urging citizens to voice their approval through petitions, public meetings and social media campaigns.

While no official timetable has been announced, the advocate emphasized that a bench in Mangaluru would also generate employment opportunities for legal professionals and support staff, and could boost the city’s standing as a regional judicial hub. He concluded by inviting community leaders, NGOs and ordinary residents to join the effort, stressing that sustained public pressure is essential for the bench to materialise.
