Demonstrations along the Assam‑Meghalaya border have continued, with rival groups imposing reciprocal cab blockades that are disrupting local traffic.
Protests that began earlier this month along the Assam‑Meghalaya border have shown no sign of abating. Demonstrators from both states have gathered at key crossing points, demanding resolution of a long‑standing border dispute.
In a tit‑for‑tat escalation, protest groups on either side have started blocking taxis and other private vehicles from entering the opposite state. The reciprocal cab blockade has forced commuters to seek alternative routes and has caused noticeable congestion on nearby highways.
Local authorities from both Assam and Meghalaya have deployed police units to monitor the situation and to prevent the protests from turning violent. Officials have appealed to the public to avoid using private transport in the affected zones and have urged the demonstrators to pursue dialogue rather than disruptive actions.
