In Delhi's Connaught Place, traders opened their shutters in the morning, but as demonstrators arrived they locked the premises, disrupting business worth an estimated ₹300 crore. Trade bodies said while protest is a democratic right, it should not hinder commerce or public movement.
Traders in Connaught Place reported that they opened their shop shutters at the usual morning hour. Shortly after, a group of protesters arrived at the site and proceeded to lock the shutters, effectively halting business activity. The sudden closure affected numerous retail outlets and service providers in the area.
According to estimates shared by local trade associations, the disruption impacted business transactions valued at around ₹300 crore. The figure reflects the combined loss of sales and services during the period the shutters remained locked.
Trade organizations emphasized that while the right to protest is protected in a democracy, demonstrations should be organized at venues that do not obstruct commercial operations or inconvenience the general public. They urged authorities to designate appropriate locations for such activities to safeguard both civic rights and economic interests.
