Pralhad Joshi has been appointed as India's Education Minister following President Murmu’s acceptance of Pradhan’s resignation.

Pralhad Joshi, a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party, was sworn in as the Union Education Minister on Thursday after President Droupadi Murmu accepted the resignation of former Education Minister Pradhan. The appointment comes as part of a cabinet reshuffle announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Joshi, who has previously served as the Minister of State for Finance, is expected to oversee the Ministry of Education’s initiatives on digital learning, teacher training and higher education reforms. He will replace Pradhan, who stepped down amid a broader government reorganisation.

The new minister will work closely with the Ministry of Human Resource Development to implement policies aimed at improving educational outcomes across the country. His appointment was confirmed by the President in a formal ceremony held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Observers note that Joshi’s experience in finance may influence his approach to budgeting for education, potentially leading to increased investment in infrastructure and technology.

The government has reiterated its commitment to achieving universal access to quality education, with plans to expand digital classrooms and strengthen teacher training programmes.
