A citywide power outage began in Gurgaon today as electricity workers launched a strike, affecting residential and commercial areas.
Gurgaon experienced a sudden loss of electricity this morning after workers from the local power utility began a strike over pending wage demands. The outage started at approximately 09:30 IST and has since spread across several sectors of the city, including major commercial hubs and residential colonies.
Authorities have confirmed that the strike is organized by the union representing the electricity workforce, and negotiations with the management are ongoing. The power company has urged consumers to conserve energy and avoid using high‑load appliances until supply is restored.
Emergency services reported a rise in calls related to traffic signals malfunctioning and elevator stalls. The municipal administration has deployed backup generators at critical locations such as hospitals and traffic control centers to mitigate disruptions.
No injuries have been reported, and officials expect the power to be gradually restored once the dispute is resolved, though a precise timeline remains unclear.
