Timely Action Saves a Life – Nurse Becomes a 'Guardian Angel' for Elderly Woman on Moving Bus
Areekode: Athira Manikuttan, a nurse at Aster MIMS Mother Hospital, became a lifesaver for an elderly woman who showed symptoms of a stroke while traveling on a bus from Perumbavoor to Areekode.
During the journey between Perumbavoor and Angamaly, Athira noticed symptoms in a 60-year-old fellow passenger, including a slight facial droop, slurred speech, and weakness in the limbs. Although the woman and her companions tried to dismiss the condition, attributing it to high blood pressure that would resolve on its own, Athira recognized the signs as indicative of a stroke.
Convinced that the woman was suffering a stroke, Athira intervened without hesitation. Despite the constraints of being on a moving bus, she insisted that the vehicle be immediately diverted to Little Flower Hospital in Angamaly. Upon arrival, the patient underwent emergency examinations which confirmed the early stages of a stroke; timely medical intervention helped her overcome the critical situation.

അരീക്കോട്: ഓടുന്ന ബസ്സില്‍ വച്ച് മസ്തിഷ്‌കാഘാതത്തിന്റെ (Stroke) ലക്ഷണങ്ങള്‍ പ്രകടമാക്കിയ വയോധികയ്ക്ക് ആസ്റ്റര്‍ മിംസ് മദര്‍ ഹോസ്പിറ്റലിലെ നഴ്‌സ് ആതിര മണിക്കുട്ടന്‍ ജീവന്റെ രക്ഷകയായി. പെരുമ്പാവൂരില്‍ നിന്ന് അരീക്കോട്ടേക്കുള്ള യാത്രയ്ക്കിടയിലാണ് സംഭവം.
