Two prominent local figures, Dabbu Khan – husband of Mayor Anjum Ara – and former Jan Suraj member Ravindra Yadav, submitted independent nomination papers for the Darbhanga Legislative Council seat, intensifying the contest.
The upcoming Legislative Council (MLC) election in Darbhanga, Bihar, has seen a surge in political activity as two well‑known local personalities entered the fray as independent candidates. Both Dabbu Khan and Ravindra Yadav lodged their nomination papers on the designated filing day, signalling a competitive contest for the seat.
Dabbu Khan, who is married to Darbhanga mayor Anjum Ara, is traditionally associated with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). Despite his party links, he chose to contest the election as an independent, filing his paperwork alongside other aspirants.
Ravindra Yadav, previously a member of the Jan Suraj party, was expelled from that organization earlier this year. Undeterred, he also filed an independent nomination, aiming to capitalize on his local support base.
Political observers note that the entry of these two candidates could split votes that might otherwise consolidate behind major party nominees, potentially reshaping the electoral dynamics in the district.
Election officials have confirmed the acceptance of both nominations, and the final list of candidates is expected to be announced shortly, ahead of the polling schedule.
