Three ashtadhatu statues of Mahavira, Adinath and Arhanath taken from a Jain temple in Mangalya, Indore, have been retrieved by police after being hidden underground.
Indore police announced the recovery of three valuable ashtadhatu idols that were stolen from a Jain temple in the city's Mangalya locality. The statues, representing Tirthankaras Mahavira, Adinath and Arhanath, were taken in a recent burglary that shocked the local Jain community.
Investigators traced the missing idols to a concealed spot on the temple premises where the thieves had buried them, presumably to avoid detection. The recovered artifacts were handed over to temple authorities for verification and further religious rites.
Authorities have launched a formal case of theft and are probing the network behind the heist. The incident underscores growing concerns over the security of heritage and religious objects in urban temples.
The temple management thanked the police for the swift action and appealed for heightened vigilance to protect other sacred items.
No arrests have been reported yet, and the investigation remains ongoing.
