Authorities in Nagaland have opened an investigation into an alleged demand of ₹1 lakh linked to a wildlife case, while an RTI application requests access to two decades of compounding records.

The Nagaland police have launched a probe after reports surfaced that a ₹1 lakh sum was demanded in connection with a wildlife-related case. Investigators are examining whether the alleged demand constitutes extortion or a breach of legal procedures.

Simultaneously, a Right to Information (RTI) petition has been filed seeking the compounding records of wildlife offences for the past twenty years. The request aims to shed light on how such cases have been settled and whether any patterns of irregularities exist.

Officials from the state wildlife department have confirmed that they are cooperating with the police and will provide the necessary documents to the RTI authority. The investigation remains ongoing, and no conclusions have been drawn at this stage.
