Rajasthan police disrupted a night‑time highway robbery ring in Jhalawar that used soil‑filled barriers to halt vehicles, and detained a suspect carrying weapons.
Police in Rajasthan’s Jhalawar district launched a raid on a suspected highway robbery gang that had been targeting motorists after dark. The operation was carried out on a stretch of the state highway where several vehicles had been stopped under suspicious circumstances.
Investigators said the gang’s method involved filling road dividers (kattas) with soil and sand to create a makeshift obstacle, forcing drivers to stop and become vulnerable to robbery. The tactic was reportedly used repeatedly during night hours, causing panic among regular commuters.
During the raid, officers apprehended a suspect who was found in possession of a firearm and other weapons. The arrested individual is being questioned for his role in the organized thefts and the broader network behind the scheme.
Police officials confirmed that further inquiries are underway to identify additional members of the gang and to secure the highway for safe travel.
