Police and Forest Dept. Seize 23 Teak Logs Worth ~₹1 Lakh from Vacant Health Quarters in Baitul, Madhya Pradesh

Authorities in Baitul, Madhya Pradesh recovered 23 teak logs hidden in an unused health department residence, valued at roughly one lakh rupees.
Baitul police, in coordination with the state forest department, seized 23 teak logs that had been concealed inside a vacant government quarter belonging to the health department. The operation took place on Thursday after officials received a tip about illegal timber storage at the premises.
The confiscated logs, identified as mature teak, are estimated to be worth around one lakh rupees in total, according to departmental assessments. Investigators noted that the logs were stacked in a locked room of the unused quarters, suggesting an attempt to hide them from routine inspections.
The forest department has opened a probe to trace the source of the timber and determine how the wood ended up in a government residence. Officials said they will examine procurement records and interview staff to uncover any links to illegal logging or unauthorized storage.
If the inquiry confirms a breach of forest conservation laws, the individuals responsible could face penalties under the Indian Forest Act, including fines and possible imprisonment.
