The Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board approved new LPG pipeline infrastructure under a ₹7,000 crore investment drive, aiming to expand the gas distribution network.
New Delhi — The Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) has given formal approval for a fresh tranche of LPG pipeline infrastructure, earmarked under a ₹7,000 crore investment programme. The move is intended to strengthen the country’s liquefied petroleum gas distribution network and reduce reliance on bottled cylinders.
The approved projects will involve laying new pipelines in regions where LPG demand is rising, linking refineries and bottling plants to urban and semi‑urban consumers. Industry sources say the investment is expected to create significant downstream capacity, improve safety, and lower end‑user costs.
PNGRB officials indicated that the pipelines will be commissioned in phases over the next few years, subject to compliance with safety and environmental norms. Major gas distributors have welcomed the decision, citing the potential for smoother supply chains and expanded market reach.
