Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Sabarmati-Varanasi Express and the Mehsana-Becharaji MEMU train services tomorrow, marking a boost to connectivity in Gujarat.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to flag off two new railway services in Gujarat tomorrow. The ceremony will take place at Sabarmati railway station in Ahmedabad, where the Sabarmati‑Varanasi Express will be launched, followed by the inauguration of the Mehsana‑Becharaji MEMU.
The Sabarmati‑Varanasi Express will connect Gujarat’s economic hub with the holy city of Varanasi, covering a distance of roughly 1,300 kilometres and providing a direct daily link for pilgrims, tourists and business travelers. The Mehsana‑Becharaji MEMU, a short‑distance commuter train, aims to improve regional mobility between the industrial town of Mehsana and the pilgrimage centre of Becharaji.
Government officials say the new services are part of a broader effort to strengthen rail infrastructure and promote economic growth in the state. The Prime Minister is expected to highlight the role of enhanced rail connectivity in fostering trade, tourism and employment opportunities across Gujarat and beyond.
Railway authorities have indicated that the Sabarmati‑Varanasi Express will feature modern coaches with upgraded amenities, while the MEMU will run at regular intervals to cater to daily commuters. The flag‑off event underscores the central government's commitment to expanding the national railway network under the current administration.
