Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a new bridge over the Brahmaputra River in Assam, which also incorporates the Northeast’s first highway emergency landing facility.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi presided over the inauguration ceremony of a new bridge spanning the Brahmaputra River in Assam. The structure, built to enhance road connectivity across the river, was unveiled alongside a pioneering aviation safety installation.
The bridge is expected to shorten travel times for commuters and freight traffic between key districts of the state, bolstering economic links in the region. By providing a reliable all‑weather crossing, it addresses long‑standing bottlenecks that have hampered movement in the Northeast.
Integrated into the bridge’s design is the Northeast’s first highway emergency landing facility, a specially prepared strip that can accommodate aircraft in distress. The facility aims to improve response capabilities for both civilian and defense aviation, offering a safe haven in a geographically challenging area.
Speaking at the event, the Prime Minister highlighted the project as a testament to the government’s commitment to infrastructure development in the Northeast, emphasizing that such initiatives are vital for inclusive growth and national security.
