Portions of plaster detached from a three-decade-old building in Mumbra, prompting officials to label the structure unsafe.

A section of plaster fell from a 30-year-old residential building in the Mumbra suburb of Thane district on Tuesday. The incident was reported by local residents who noticed the debris on the street and alerted municipal authorities.

The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) inspected the site and declared the building structurally dangerous, citing signs of deteriorating plaster and possible underlying cracks. Officials have ordered the occupants to vacate the premises until a detailed safety audit is completed.

No injuries were reported at the time of the fall, but the incident has raised concerns about the maintenance of aging structures in rapidly expanding suburban areas. The TMC has urged owners of similar old buildings to conduct regular inspections to prevent comparable hazards.

The municipal team is coordinating with the building’s owner to arrange temporary relocation for affected families and to plan remedial work, which may include plaster removal and reinforcement of the façade. Further updates will be provided as the safety assessment progresses.
