A senior pensioners’ association has urged the 8th Pay Commission to set a minimum salary range of ₹18,000 to ₹69,000 for government employees.

The 8th Pay Commission, tasked with revising salary structures for central and state government staff, is reviewing compensation levels ahead of its final report due later this year.
A prominent pensioners’ body, representing retired civil servants, has submitted a formal proposal recommending that the commission establish a minimum pay band of ₹18,000 to ₹69,000.
The association argues that the current floor is insufficient to meet basic living costs for entry‑level officers and junior staff.
Commission officials have acknowledged receipt of the suggestion and said they will examine it alongside other stakeholder inputs before finalising the pay matrix.
If adopted, the new floor could raise the take‑home pay of thousands of employees, but it may also increase the fiscal burden on the exchequer, prompting further debate in the Ministry of Finance.
