The Patna High Court has refused bail to an accused in a case involving counterfeit currency worth Rs 1.95 lakh.
Patna High Court on Wednesday declined to grant bail to a person charged with producing and circulating counterfeit currency valued at Rs 1.95 lakh. The bench, after hearing arguments from the prosecution and defence, concluded that the seriousness of the alleged offence warranted continued detention.
According to the charge sheet filed by the Bihar police, the accused is alleged to have been part of a network that forged banknotes and attempted to introduce them into circulation. The investigation uncovered counterfeit notes amounting to nearly two lakh rupees, prompting a swift legal response.
The court ordered that the accused remain in custody pending trial, directing the prosecution to expedite the filing of the trial diary. Legal experts note that denial of bail in counterfeit cases is common when the offence is deemed to pose a risk to public confidence in the monetary system.
