The Air Quality Index (AQI) in Patna, the capital of Bihar, recorded moderate pollution levels today, according to real‑time monitoring data. Authorities advise residents to limit outdoor activities during peak hours.

On Thursday, real‑time sensors in Patna reported an AQI of 115, placing the city in the moderate pollution category. The reading was driven mainly by particulate matter (PM2.5) and PM10 concentrations that exceeded the National Ambient Air Quality Standards.

Health experts warned that prolonged exposure to such levels can aggravate respiratory and cardiovascular conditions, especially among children, the elderly, and people with pre‑existing ailments. The state pollution control board urged the public to stay indoors during peak hours and to use air purifiers where possible.

The monitoring station, located near the Patna Central Railway Station, has been operational for the past two years and provides hourly updates to the public via the state’s environmental portal. Officials are investigating the sources of the spike, which may include vehicular emissions, construction dust, and industrial activity in the surrounding areas.

The government has pledged to strengthen enforcement of emission norms and to increase green cover in the city to curb future pollution episodes.
