Owaisi Criticises Amit Shah Over UCC Push in 21 NDA States, Points to Goa Opposition

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah of pressing for a Uniform Civil Code in 21 NDA-ruled states, highlighting that Goa has opposed the move.
Asaduddin Owaisi, the leader of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen, criticised Union Home Minister Amit Shah for advocating the Uniform Civil Code in as many as 21 states governed by the NDA alliance. He said the push disregards the reservations expressed by several regions.
Owaisi specifically pointed to Goa as an example where the proposal has faced resistance, noting that the coastal state has not accepted the UCC initiative. He used Goa’s stance to question the uniformity of the move across diverse states.
The AIMIM chief argued that such a nationwide push overlooks regional sentiments and federal principles, urging the Centre to take into account the opposition seen in states like Goa before proceeding further.
He concluded by calling for a re-evaluation of the UCC agenda in light of the dissent, emphasizing that any legislation should reflect the consensus of all stakeholders rather than being imposed top-down.
