More than 5,000 tribal residents of Kosmi village in Sehore district are marching on foot to Bhopal to protest a forest‑department action, seeking lease of their land and compensation for homes and crops lost.

A large group of tribal inhabitants from Kosmi, a village in Sehore district, began a foot march toward Bhopal on October 17. The protesters, numbering over five thousand, are walking to the state capital to voice their opposition to recent actions taken by the forest department that they say have resulted in loss of land, homes and agricultural produce.

The demonstrators plan to present a petition to Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, demanding that the state grant them legal lease rights over the disputed forest land and provide monetary compensation for the damage to their houses and crops. Organisers say the forest department’s measures have displaced families and disrupted their traditional livelihoods.

Local authorities have been alerted about the march, and police are expected to manage the crowd as it reaches Bhopal. The protest underscores growing tensions between tribal communities and government agencies over land rights in Madhya Pradesh.
