The Andhra Pradesh government has officially transferred land ownership to more than 28,000 families in Visakhapatnam, ending a wait that stretched over several decades.
Visakhapatnam authorities have handed over land ownership documents to over 28,000 families, concluding a protracted waiting period that spanned several decades. The transfer was carried out under a state‑led initiative aimed at regularising informal settlements and providing legal title to occupants.
Government officials said the move will empower beneficiaries by giving them clear property rights, which can facilitate access to credit, improve housing security and encourage investment in the local economy. The families, many of whom have lived on the parcels for generations, received title deeds in a ceremony attended by district administrators.
The administration has indicated that it will continue to monitor the implementation of the scheme to ensure that the newly granted titles are properly recorded and that any disputes are resolved promptly. The large‑scale land regularisation is expected to set a precedent for similar actions in other parts of the state.
