The Sugam Digital Gujarat platform has enabled more than a lakh citizens to obtain various certificates from home within just four months, reflecting rapid adoption of e‑services in the state.

Gujarat's Sugam Digital initiative, launched to streamline the delivery of government certificates, reported that over 100,000 residents have successfully applied for and received documents such as birth, marriage and land certificates without visiting a physical office. The data, released by the state’s Department of Information Technology, covers the period from January to April 2024.

The platform integrates multiple departmental databases, allowing users to submit applications, make payments and download digitally signed certificates through a single portal. Officials said the surge in usage is driven by widespread smartphone penetration and targeted awareness campaigns in rural and urban areas.

State officials highlighted that the digital route reduces processing time from weeks to a few days, cuts administrative costs and minimizes the need for in‑person verification. The success of Sugam Digital is being positioned as a model for other Indian states seeking to expand their e‑governance footprint.

The department plans to add more services, including tax clearances and educational certificates, in the coming months, aiming to reach a million online transactions by the end of the year.
