Residents of Omkareshwar in Madhya Pradesh have declared a town bandh starting October 19, citing fears that the upcoming Singhsth 2028 development works will affect their livelihoods. They demand proper compensation, rehabilitation and job security after talks on a 19‑point charter failed.
The citizens of Omkareshwar announced that from October 19 the town will observe a shutdown (bandh) to protest against the proposed Singhsth 2028 development projects. They said the works could disrupt local life and livelihoods if not properly addressed.
A 19‑point charter of demands was submitted to the authorities, but no agreement was reached. The protesters are insisting on fair compensation for affected families, proper rehabilitation measures and guarantees of job security for those whose livelihoods depend on the area.
The Sant Mandal, a local religious body, has warned that if the administration does not respond positively, the agitation will intensify and could lead to larger protests in the coming days.
