In his Independence Day address, former Jammu & Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah said that if Article 370 had not been abrogated, Pakistan would have protested to reunite Kashmir with its territory.
Former Jammu & Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah delivered his Independence Day speech in New Delhi on August 15, 2024. He remarked that had Article 370, which granted special status to the state, remained in force, Pakistan would have protested the reunification of Kashmir with India.
Abdullah’s comment was part of a broader discussion on the Kashmir issue, highlighting the geopolitical sensitivities that persist even after the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019. He emphasized that the decision to revoke the article was aimed at integrating the region more fully into the Indian Union.
