The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) stated it has no locus standi to intervene in the Kashmir dispute, urging India to adopt a more assertive stance.
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) issued a statement clarifying that it does not possess a legal right, or locus standi, to intervene in the Kashmir conflict between India and Pakistan. The declaration was made during a recent meeting of the OIC’s foreign ministers, where the body reiterated its focus on broader Muslim‑world issues rather than bilateral territorial disputes.
In the statement, the OIC explained that its charter does not grant it jurisdiction over the internal affairs of member states, and therefore it cannot formally mediate or take a position on the Kashmir question. The organization emphasized that any resolution must come through bilateral dialogue between the concerned nations.
Indian officials responded by acknowledging the OIC’s position but warned that the country expects a more robust diplomatic and strategic response to any external commentary on the issue. The Ministry of External Affairs indicated that India will continue to pursue its own policy on Kashmir and will not be swayed by statements lacking legal standing.
