The Odisha government has proposed the installation of 290 new electric‑vehicle charging points under the central PM E‑DRIVE programme to accelerate EV uptake in the state.

The state administration of Odisha announced a plan to set up 290 additional electric‑vehicle (EV) charging stations under the centrally funded PM E‑DRIVE scheme. The proposal aims to expand the existing charging infrastructure, which is essential for encouraging wider adoption of EVs among commuters and commercial fleets.

Under the PM E‑DRIVE programme, the central government provides financial assistance to states for developing EV charging networks. Odisha's proposal aligns with the national goal of reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable mobility.

State officials indicated that the new stations will be strategically located across major towns and highways to ensure accessibility for users. The rollout is expected to begin later this year, subject to approval of funding and detailed site surveys.

If implemented as planned, the expanded network will complement the state's ongoing efforts to promote electric mobility, including incentives for EV purchases and the development of renewable energy sources to power the chargers.
