The State Election Commission of Odisha has added 33,515 new names to the SIR voter list following the removal of roughly two million outdated entries.
The State Election Commission (SEC) of Odisha announced a major revision of the Statewise Integrated Register (SIR) voter list. After a systematic purge of approximately two million entries deemed obsolete or duplicate, the commission has incorporated 33,515 new voters into the database.
The cleanup exercise was undertaken to improve the accuracy of electoral rolls ahead of upcoming local body elections. Officials said the deletions primarily involved deceased individuals, migrated voters and duplicate records identified through cross‑verification with national databases.
The addition of over thirty‑three thousand fresh entries reflects ongoing enrolment drives in rural and urban areas of the state. The SEC has urged eligible citizens to verify their details on the updated list and to report any discrepancies before the next electoral cycle.
Election analysts note that a cleaner voter roll can enhance the credibility of the voting process and reduce the scope for electoral fraud. The SEC will continue to monitor and update the SIR list as part of its routine maintenance.
Stakeholders, including political parties and civil society groups, have welcomed the move, calling it a step toward transparent and fair elections in Odisha.
