Three suspects were taken into custody by Odisha police after a crackdown on an illegal betting ring that defrauded victims of around Rs 1 crore.
Odisha police announced the seizure of an illegal betting operation after uncovering a scheme that swindled the public of approximately Rs 1 crore. The investigation, led by the state's Crime Branch, resulted in the arrest of three individuals believed to be the core members of the gang.
Authorities said the suspects ran a network that accepted bets on various sports and events, promising high returns while manipulating outcomes to ensure losses for participants. Over several months, the ring collected money from dozens of bettors across the state before the police intervened.
The arrested persons are currently in custody and will be interrogated for further details about the operation, including any accomplices and the flow of the illicit proceeds. The police have also seized cash, betting slips, and electronic devices believed to contain records of the transactions.
