A low-pressure system is forming over the Bay of Bengal, prompting Odisha’s meteorological department to place 20 districts on alert.

The regional meteorological office has identified a low-pressure area moving over the Bay of Bengal, which could bring intensified rain and gusty winds to the eastern coast of India. In response, the state government of Odisha has issued an alert covering twenty districts that are most vulnerable to the expected weather disturbances.

Officials from the Odisha Disaster Management Authority have been instructed to monitor the system closely and to activate emergency response teams in the notified districts. Preliminary forecasts suggest that the system may linger for several days, raising the risk of localized flooding and waterlogging in low-lying areas.

Residents in the affected districts have been advised to stay updated with weather bulletins, secure loose objects, and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rainfall. The authorities have also readied relief supplies and rescue equipment to mitigate any adverse impact should the system intensify.

The alert remains in force until the meteorological department issues a revised advisory based on the system's progression.
