The India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for Odisha, warning of heavy rainfall over the next two days.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has raised a red alert for the state of Odisha, forecasting intense rainfall for the next 48 hours. Meteorologists expect widespread downpours across coastal districts and interior regions, with accumulations that could exceed normal monsoon levels.

Authorities warn that the projected deluge may trigger flash floods, water‑logging in low‑lying areas, and disruption to road and rail services. Agricultural fields, especially in the Mahanadi basin, could face water‑stress and crop damage if the rains turn into prolonged inundation.

State disaster management officials have mobilised emergency response teams, pre‑positioned relief supplies, and issued advisories to local bodies to clear drainage channels. The Odisha Disaster Management Authority (ODMA) is coordinating with the National Disaster Response Force to ensure rapid rescue operations if needed.

Residents are urged to stay updated through official bulletins, avoid unnecessary travel, and move valuables and livestock to higher ground. The IMD will continue to monitor the system and provide hourly updates as the situation evolves.
