The Odisha government has inaugurated the first phase of a special Jagannath darshan scheme for senior citizens. The initiative allows elderly devotees early access to the shrine in Puri.

The Odisha state authorities flagged off the inaugural wave of a dedicated Jagannath darshan programme aimed at senior citizens. The move is part of the government's effort to make the holy pilgrimage more accessible to elderly devotees.

Under the scheme, special arrangements have been put in place to facilitate smooth and comfortable darshan for older pilgrims. This includes priority entry and assistance at the temple premises in Puri.

Officials said the initiative seeks to reduce the physical strain on senior devotees who wish to seek the blessings of Lord Jagannath. The first wave marks the beginning of a series of phases planned for the coming months.

The programme has been welcomed by various senior citizen groups and religious organisations operating in the state. They have expressed hope that similar facilities will be extended to other pilgrimage sites.
