Odisha launches data‑driven ‘PRAYAS’ scheme to accelerate social development

The Odisha government has rolled out the PRAYAS initiative, a data‑centric program aimed at speeding up social welfare delivery across the state.
The state government of Odisha announced the launch of PRAYAS, a new data‑driven platform designed to fast‑track the implementation of social welfare schemes. The initiative integrates real‑time data from multiple departments to identify gaps in service delivery and allocate resources more efficiently.
Under PRAYAS, a central dashboard will collate information on health, education, housing and livelihood programmes, allowing officials to monitor progress at the block and village levels. The system leverages cloud‑based analytics and mobile reporting tools, enabling field officers to update beneficiary data instantly.
Officials said the programme aims to reduce duplication, curb leakages and ensure that benefits reach the intended recipients within weeks rather than months. Pilot testing in select districts has already shown a 15‑percent improvement in scheme uptake, and the government plans to scale the platform statewide by the end of the fiscal year.
The rollout is being overseen by the Department of Planning and Coordination, in partnership with the National Informatics Centre, and will be supported by training sessions for local administrators. Stakeholders view PRAYAS as a model for data‑informed governance that could be replicated in other Indian states.
