The Odisha government has issued a weather warning as intense rainfall and gusty winds are forecast for several districts, prompting precautionary measures.
The State Disaster Management Authority of Odisha, in coordination with the Indian Meteorological Department, released a weather alert on Monday warning of heavy rainfall and strong winds expected to hit the coastal and interior districts over the next 48 hours.
Affected districts include Puri, Khordha, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur and Ganjam, where local authorities anticipate flash floods in low‑lying areas and possible disruption to road and rail services.
Officials have advised residents to avoid non‑essential travel, secure loose objects, and stay updated through official channels. Schools and government offices in the most vulnerable zones may be closed if conditions worsen.
The alert also calls for fishermen to remain ashore and for emergency response teams to be on standby to assist any communities impacted by sudden waterlogging or wind‑related damage.
Authorities will review the situation hourly and may extend the warning if the weather system intensifies.
