The Odisha High Court issued an order staying the disqualification of five Biju Janata Dal legislators, a move welcomed by the party which also raised concerns over the Advocate General’s comments.

The Odisha High Court has issued a stay on the pending disqualification of five legislators belonging to the Biju Janata Dal (BJD). The court’s intervention comes amid a petition challenging the earlier decision that sought to remove the MLAs from the state assembly.

The BJD welcomed the High Court’s order, describing it as a vindication of democratic principles and a safeguard for elected representatives. Party officials said the ruling reinforces the need for due process before any member can be stripped of office.

At the same time, the party questioned recent remarks made by the state Advocate General, alleging that the comments were prejudicial and could influence the legal proceedings. The BJD demanded a clarification and urged that the Advocate General’s statements remain within the bounds of legal propriety.

Legal experts note that the stay does not settle the substantive issue of the disqualification but merely preserves the status quo until the matter is fully examined in court.
