The Odisha High Court expressed dissatisfaction with the state police’s investigation into the murder of an OMDV constable, questioning the adequacy of the probe.

The bench of the Odisha High Court has publicly criticised the investigation carried out by the state police into the killing of an OMDV constable, saying the inquiry falls short of expected standards. The court’s remarks were made after reviewing the police’s submitted report and the evidence presented so far.

The constable, who was serving with the Odisha Military Defence Volunteers (OMDV), was found dead under circumstances that prompted a criminal case. Police officials have alleged a motive but have not provided conclusive forensic or testimonial evidence, leading the judges to doubt the thoroughness of the probe.

In response, the High Court has directed the police to reopen the case, expand the forensic examination and submit a revised report within a stipulated timeframe. The court also warned that any further delay could attract contempt proceedings, underscoring the judiciary’s insistence on a transparent and comprehensive investigation.
