Odisha is grappling with widespread flooding after days of heavy rainfall, forcing evacuations in several districts and prompting emergency response teams to mobilise resources.
Odisha has been hit by severe flooding after a prolonged period of heavy rainfall that began on 29 July and intensified over the weekend. The deluge has inundated low‑lying areas across multiple districts, including Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and Puri, causing widespread damage to homes and infrastructure.
Local authorities have declared a state of emergency in the hardest hit regions. Rescue teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA) have been deployed to conduct search and rescue operations and to provide relief supplies to displaced families.
The Odisha government has activated its flood relief plan, distributing food packets, blankets and temporary shelter materials to affected residents. Roads and bridges in the flood‑prone areas have been closed to ensure public safety, while the Indian Army has been called in to assist with heavy equipment and logistics.
Meteorological reports indicate that the monsoon trough has stalled over the eastern coast, leading to sustained rainfall of up to 200 mm in some districts. Officials urge residents to stay alert for further rainfall and to follow instructions from local authorities.
