Odisha CM Announces Multiple New Railway Projects to Enhance State Connectivity

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced today a series of railway initiatives designed to strengthen Odisha's transport network. The projects include new lines, gauge conversions and the upgradation of existing routes, targeting both passenger and freight traffic. Patnaik emphasized that improved rail connectivity will spur economic growth, attract investment and create jobs in the state.

The announced schemes cover strategic corridors linking remote districts with major urban centers such as Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Rourkela. Officials said the projects will be executed in partnership with Indian Railways and are expected to be completed in phases over the next five years. Funding will come from a mix of central government allocations and state resources.

Stakeholders, including local business groups and transport unions, welcomed the move, citing the potential for reduced logistics costs and faster movement of goods. The CM assured that the government will monitor progress closely to ensure timely delivery and adherence to quality standards.
