The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) will run three pairs of special trains, amounting to 14 trips, to manage the passenger surge during the Diwali and Chhath Puja holidays.

The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) announced that it will deploy three pairs of special trains to cater to the heightened travel demand surrounding Diwali and Chhath Puja. These additional services will comprise a total of 14 trips, scheduled to run on the peak days of the festivals.

According to the railway’s press release, the special trains will operate on key routes that traditionally see the highest passenger volumes during the holiday period. By augmenting regular services, NFR aims to reduce congestion on regular trains and provide smoother journeys for holiday travelers.

Railway officials highlighted that such festival‑specific train operations are a routine measure to ensure safety and comfort for commuters. Passengers are advised to book tickets in advance as seats on the special services are expected to fill quickly.

The move comes as part of NFR’s broader effort to manage seasonal travel spikes across the northeastern region, where both Diwali and Chhath Puja attract large numbers of migrant workers and families returning home.
