A proposed extension of the Noida Metro line is set to reduce congestion in the city, but the project awaits formal approval today.

A new proposal to extend the Noida Metro line has been submitted to the state authorities, with the aim of cutting travel time for commuters and easing traffic congestion in the rapidly growing city.

The extension would add approximately 8 kilometres of track, linking the current terminus at Noida Sector 18 to the upcoming Noida Sector 62 station. Transport officials estimate that the project could reduce peak‑hour travel times by up to 20 minutes.

The proposal, which includes construction of two new underground stations, has been drafted by the Noida Metro Rail Corporation and is currently under review by the Uttar Pradesh government. If approved today, construction could begin in the first quarter of next year.

The project is expected to cost around ₹2,500 crore and will be financed through a combination of state funds and a public‑private partnership model. Local businesses and residents have welcomed the plan, citing the potential for improved connectivity to Delhi’s metro network.

Officials say that a formal decision will be announced within the next 48 hours, after which the project will enter the tendering phase.
