The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has detained a principal suspect alleged to have orchestrated a terror plot aimed at radicalising individuals in West Bengal and several northeastern states.
The National Investigation Agency announced that it has arrested a key figure suspected of planning a terror network intended to radicalise citizens in West Bengal and parts of the Northeast. The operation, described as a coordinated effort, resulted in the suspect’s detention without incident.
According to the agency’s statement, the individual was believed to be central to a scheme that sought to spread extremist ideology across the two regions, posing a potential threat to public safety and communal harmony. Investigators said the plot involved attempts to recruit and influence vulnerable groups.
NIA officials indicated that the investigation is ongoing, with forensic and intelligence teams examining the suspect’s contacts and communications. The agency has not disclosed further details about the charges or the timeline for court proceedings, but emphasized that the arrest disrupts the planned radicalisation drive.
