The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken into custody another individual alleged to be part of a Jamaat‑ul‑Mujahideen Bangladesh offshoot’s terror conspiracy aimed at West Bengal and several North‑Eastern states.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) announced the arrest of an additional accused believed to be involved in a terror network linked to an offshoot of Jamaat‑ul‑Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB). The suspect was apprehended as part of an ongoing probe into a conspiracy that targeted West Bengal and multiple states in the North‑Eastern region.
Investigators have said the plot aimed to destabilise the region through coordinated attacks, and the recent arrest follows earlier detentions of individuals connected to the same network. The NIA has been monitoring communications and financial trails that indicated a concerted effort to plan violent acts across state borders.
A senior NIA spokesperson confirmed that the detainee will be produced before a court within the stipulated legal timeframe. The agency reiterated its commitment to dismantling extremist cells operating on Indian soil and warned that any further attempts to threaten public safety will be met with swift action.
The development comes amid heightened security alerts in the eastern and northeastern corridors, where authorities have stepped up surveillance and intelligence sharing to pre‑empt any potential attacks.
