The National Highways Authority of India has announced a plan to harness silt from Bihar’s rivers for building highways, aiming to reduce flooding in the state.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has unveiled a strategy to use silt dredged from Bihar’s rivers for constructing new highways across the state.
Under the plan, the accumulated silt will be processed and incorporated into road sub‑bases, providing a cost‑effective and environmentally friendly material for paving.
Officials say the initiative will not only reduce the volume of silt that typically causes river blockage and flooding, but also accelerate the development of key transport corridors in Bihar.
The project is expected to create a dual benefit: improved road infrastructure for local communities and a reduction in flood risk during the monsoon season.
